Our History
TotalEnergies at a Glance
TotalEnergies' history began in 1924, with the creation of Compagnie Française des Pétroles (CFP).
At the time, we produced oil in the Middle East.
Over the years, we have expanded internationally and diversified into gas, refining, petrochemicals, and petroleum product marketing, as well as solar power, bioenergies, and energy storage.
TotalEnergies was created through two successive mergers, the first when the former TotalEnergies joined with the Belgian oil company Petrofina to form Totalfina, and the second when Totalfina combined with French oil company, Elf Aquitaine to create TotalFinaElf.
On 7th May 2003 the Group re-branded as Total S.A., uniting the three brands.
On 28th May 2021 the Group re-branded as TotalEnergies S.E.. This new name and new visual identity embody the course that TotalEnergies has resolutely chartered for itself: that of a broad energy company committed to producing and providing energies that are ever more affordable, reliable and clean.
TotalEnergies has been innovating for nearly 100 years to meet our customers' expectations.
