TotalEnergies Secures Development Approval for a 320 MW PV & BESS Hybrid Project in New South Wales

Melbourne, November 15, 2024 – TotalEnergies welcomes the decision made on 11 November 2024 by the Independent Planning Commission (IPC) in New South Wales to grant approval to the Middlebrook Solar Farm and BESS project in the rural heart of the state.

Located 290 km northwest of Sydney and 20 km south of Tamworth, the project will feature a 320 MWac photovoltaic (PV) solar farm, a battery energy storage system (BESS) of up to 780 MWh, and a 330 kV substation. Once completed, the Middlebrook Project will be one of the most significant renewable energy initiatives in New South Wales, able to power the equivalent of around 153,000 homes.

TotalEnergies has undertaken proactive initiatives on various fronts to ensure the project supports the green ambitions of New South Wales and Australia. The project has undergone a rigorous state planning process, which includes ecological, heritage, visual, and transport assessments. Thorough consultation throughout the four-year development period also involved local farmers and nearby community members.
